The card list as a chess board.

Each chess trading card celebrates the moments, ideas, and personalities that make chess unforgettable. From legendary players to iconic openings and defining positions, the collection reflects the depth and culture of the game. The 64-card format is a deliberate nod to the 8×8 board.

Rarity System

Each card contains consistent art, typography, and design. Card specs vary by rarity type as follows:

Common

Pawn

#1–3232 cards

Title, Category, Detail, Matte illustration (1/2 card), Illustrator credit, Card number, Border, and Rarity indicator (Pawn).

Uncommon

Knight

#33–5119 cards

Same as Common, except for Rarity indicator (Knight).

Rare

Rook

#52–6413 cards

Same as Common, except for Holographic illustration (1/2 card) and Rarity indicator (Rook).

Secret Rare

Queen

#65–728 cards

Same as Common, except for Holographic illustration (full card) and Rarity indicator (Queen).

Monochrome

King

#73–808 cards

Same as Common, except for Monochromatic illustration (full card) and Rarity indicator (King).

These ones also have Secret Rare and Monochrome variations

This set contains 8 Secret Rare cards, which are full art adaptations of select cards within the main set.

Monochromes

The set also contains 8 Monochromatic cards, which are special versions of Secret Rares. Monochromes are extremely limited - one of each per print run.

The Art (and Artist)

All illustrations are completely hand drawn by stinmaster (Austin McDonald).

Stinmaster is an NYC-based illustrator and tattoo artist. A mutual friend introduced us and I was immediately struck by his art; combining nostalgia, game culture, fantasy, and anime with intricate dotwork.

Stinmaster and I kicked off the project with an immersion session where we spent hours talking chess, handling our favorite trading cards, and talking about our vision for the art. From there, stinmaster has shown his talents by translating each idea into an initial sketch, then color mock, then the final illustrations that you see on each card.

How we got started

We ran a Kickstarter in spring 2026 and raised almost $7,000. With that, we secured enough interest to illustrate and print a complete run of our first set. We are excited to share that with the world.

It was always critical to this project to preserve and promote human artists, as opposed to taking ‘the easy way out’ with AI-generated content.
